How Does Blackjack Double Down Work?

In blackjack, doubling down is when you double your original bet after receiving your first two cards. To do this, you place an additional bet next to your original bet.

When you double down, you only receive one more card.

The option to double down is only available on the first two cards of a hand, and not after you take a hit. It’s up to the player whether or not to double down.

You should only do so if you have a good chance of winning the hand by doing so.

For example, let’s say you’re dealt a 10 and an Ace, for a total of 11. The dealer is showing a 5.

In this case, you would want to double down because there’s a good chance you can win the hand by doing so. If you hit and receive a 9, for example, you would then have a total of 20, which would likely beat the dealer’s hand.

In general, you should double down if:

-You have a total of 11 and the dealer is showing a 2-6.
-You have a total of 10 and the dealer is showing a 9 or lower.

-You have a total of 9 and the dealer is showing a 3-6.

If you decide to double down, place your chips next to your original bet and tell the dealer “I’m doubling down.” The dealer will then give you one more card before moving on to the next player.

Keep in mind that when you double down, you are essentially taking a riskier bet in hopes of winning more money. So if you don’t feel confident in your hand, it might be better to just hit or stand instead of doubling down.
