When Montreal Casino Will Open?

The Montreal Casino (French: Casino de Montréal) is a casino located on the Notre Dame Island in the borough of Ville-Marie in Montreal, Quebec, and is the largest casino in Canada. The casino is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to patrons aged 18 and older.

It opened on October 9, 1993.

Located in the former Expo 67 site, the casino consists of three interconnected buildings. The main building has six floors, in addition to the annex and pavilion. Within the three structures there are over 3200 slot machines, 115 gaming tables, Keno facilities, and large number of speed lotteries and virtual games. The casino also contains four restaurants, three bars, a cabaret, and meeting and banquet facilities.

The casino is known for its unconventional features, such as its numerous windows and low ceilings. It has been a non-smoking casino since July 2003[citation needed], and the former smoking lounges were closed in May 2006 with the passing of a new provincial law.

The Montreal Casino was inaugurated on October 9, 1993 by Quebec’s then-Premier Robert Bourassa. Construction at this site began in 1991, and cost $100 million. The entire expansion cost $409 million. The main building for the casino was built on a former Expo 67 site.

The casino received permission from the provincial government in 1992. The main building is six storeys high[6] and contains over 3200 slot machines and 115 gaming tables.[7].

The casino also contains four restaurants (Le Baccara, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, La Dame de Coeur), three bars (Le Cabaret du Casino, Le Café de Paris, Le Bar des Spectacles), a cabaret (Spectacle), and meeting and banquet facilities.[8]

The casino is famous for its unconventional features; for example: it has numerous windows and no interior walls; its ceiling height is only around 14 feet (4 meters) high; it contains four private salons; each salon has its own theme: “the Races”, “the Eiffel Tower”, “the Palace”, or “the Seasons”.[9][10]

In 1999, the casino was the recipient of the Best Canadian Land Based Casino Award at the London Gaming Fair.[11]

In 2003 after years of campaigning by groUPS like Airborne Allergies & Environmental Health Association,[12] smoking was banned throughout all casinos in Ontario as well as all enclosed public places including bars & restaurants.[13][14][15] This ban has since been extended to all casinos & gambling venues throughout Canada.

As of 2019 Montreal Casino is still not open but there are talks that it might open in 2020.
