However, the casino never opened.

The Tangiers was to be located at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue. Construction began in 1962, but work stopped after only a few months.
The site remained vacant for years.
In 1967, a group of investors tried to revive the project, but their efforts were unsuccessful. In 1974, another group announced plans to build a casino on the same site, but again nothing came of it.
So, what happened? Why was the Tangiers never built?
There are a few theories. One is that the casino simply wasn’t feasible.
The location was too far from the Strip and there wasn’t enough land for parking.
Another theory is that the mobsters behind the project got cold feet after the FBI started investigating them. It’s also possible that they ran into financial problems.
Whatever the reason, the Tangiers Casino was never built. But its story lives on in Las Vegas lore.
