Are Blackjack Knives Illegal?

Blackjack knives are not illegal. They are, however, regulated by some states.

In general, blackjack knives are legal to purchase and own in the United States. There are a few states, however, that have enacted lAWS restricting the ownership or carrying of blackjack knives.

The states of California, Massachusetts and New York have all passed lAWS making it illegal to carry a blackjack knife. In California, it is also illegal to sell or manufacture blackjack knives.

In Massachusetts, blackjack knives are classified as dangerous weapons and are subject to strict regulation. It is legal to own a blackjack knife in New York, but it is illegal to carry one in public.

The states of Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio and Oklahoma all have lAWS that specifically allow the carrying of blackjack knives. In Alaska, blackjack knives may be carried openly or concealed. In Arizona, Florida, Indiana and Michigan, blackjack knives may be carried openly or concealed so long as they are not used in the commission of a crime.

In Nevada and Ohio, blackjack knives may be carried openly or concealed so long as they are not displayed in a threatening manner. Oklahoma law does not specifically address the carrying of blackjack knives but they are generally considered to be legal to carry.

There are a few cities and counties within states that have enacted their own lAWS restricting the carrying of blackjack knives. These include San Francisco, Denver and Boulder in Colorado; Chicago, Illinois; New Orleans, Louisiana; Philadelphia and Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania; and Seattle, Washington.
