Are Masks Required at Empire City Casino?

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage the United States, many businesses are struggling to find the right balance between protecting their employees and customers while also trying to stay afloat. For casinos, which are high-traffic areas by nature, this has been especially challenging.

However, one casino in New York has made the decision to require all employees and guests to wear masks at all times while on the property.

Empire City Casino, located in Yonkers, New York, is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International. The casino reopened its doors on August 5th after being closed for over four months due to the pandemic.

While many other casinos have chosen to implement various safety protocols such as temperature checks, social distancing measures, and increased cleaning efforts, Empire City Casino is the only one in the state of New York that is requiring all employees and guests to wear masks at all times while on the property.

The decision to require masks was not an easy one for the casino to make, but ultimately they felt it was the best way to protect their employees and guests. “We want everyone who comes through our doors to feel safe and comfortable,” said Uri Clinton, Senior Vice President & General Counsel of Empire City Casino.

“The health and safety of our team members and guests is always our top priority.”.

The casino has also implemented a number of other safety measures such as increasing the frequency of cleaning and sanitizing throughout the property, installing plexiglass barriers at all guest service areas, restricting smoking and vaping on the premises, and limiting capacity in all indoor areas.

So far, the response from employees and guests has been largely positive. “I feel much safer working here knowing that everyone is required to wear a mask,” said one employee who wished to remain anonymous.

“It shows that the casino is serious about protecting its workers.

“I’m really impressed with how they’re handling things,” said one guest who was visiting from out of town. “They’re taking all the right precautions to keep people safe.”

While it remains to be seen how long these measures will need to be in place, Empire City Casino is committed to doing whatever it takes to keep its employees and guests safe during these uncertain times.
