Are Poker Tournaments Back at Foxwoods?

As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, thoughts turn to outdoor activities. For some, that means hitting the golf course.

For others, it’s finally time to get the boat out of storage and head for the lake. And for a select few, it means dusting off the poker chips and heading to Foxwoods Resort Casino for a tournament.

Poker tournaments have been a staple at Foxwoods since the early days of the casino, but they’ve been on hiatus for the past few years. That’s about to change, as Foxwoods has announced a full slate of tournaments for the spring and summer.

The first event is scheduled for May 5-7 and features a $560 buy-in No Limit Hold ‘Em tournament with a $1 million guaranteed prize pool. That’s just the start, as Foxwoods has tournaments scheduled nearly every week through September 3.

PRO TIP:If you are looking to play in a poker tournament at Foxwoods, be sure to check their online calendar for the most up-to-date information. Many of their tournaments require pre-registration, and seating may be limited.

The schedule includes events with buy-ins ranging from $60 to $5,000, ensuring that there’s something for players of all bankroll sizes. There are also multiple events with guaranteed prize pools in excess of $1 million.

In addition to traditional No Limit Hold ‘Em tournaments, Foxwoods will also offer events featuring Omaha 8 or Better, H.O.R.S.

E., and pot limit Omaha. There will also be a number of “action” tournaments with shorter levels and faster play designed to keep things exciting.

If you’re looking for a break from tournament action, Foxwoods will also be home to a series of cash game festivals featuring high stakes action in No Limit Hold ‘Em and pot limit Omaha. The festival schedule has not yet been announced, but additional information will be made available on the casino’s website in the coming weeks.

There’s no doubt that poker is enjoying something of a renaissance in recent years thanks in large part to the popularity of online poker apps like PokerStars and WSOP Poker. Now that poker is back at Foxwoods, players in New England will have even more opportunities to test their skills against some of the best players in the world.
