Do All Jeeps Have 7 Slots?

All Jeeps have 7 slots in the grille, right? Wrong.

Jeep grilles have always been unique, and one of the most distinguishing features of a Jeep is the number of slots in the grille. The original Willys MB had 9 slots, while the Willys Overland CJ-2A and the Willys MA had 7 slots.

The number of slots in the grille was reduced to 6 on the CJ-3A, and then back to 7 on the CJ-3B. The Wrangler YJ and TJ both had 7 slots again, but the JK and JL Wranglers have 9 slots.

So, as you can see, there is no standard number of slots in a Jeep grille. .

Some people believe that the number of slots in a Jeep grille is directly related to the engine size. The thinking goes that more slots means more cooling for a bigger engine.

However, this is not always the case. For example, the 9-slot grille on the Willys MB was used with the “Go Devil” 134 cubic inch inline 4-cylinder engine, while the 6-slot grille on the CJ-3A was used with the “Hurricane” 226 cubic inch inline 6-cylinder engine.

So, do all Jeeps have 7 slots in their grilles? No, they do not. The number of slots varies depending on the model and year of Jeep.
