Do All M 2 Slots Support SATA?

M.2, also known as NGFF (Next Generation Form Factor) is the successor of the mSATA standard for internally mounted computer expansion cards and associated connectors.

M.2 is very flexible and is widely used as an interface for SSDs in laptops and other devices.

The M.2 standard specifies two different widths for its connectors: 42 millimeters (2260) and 60 millimeters (2280).

The most common length is 80 millimeters (22110), but other lengths are also supported, including 30, 42, 60, 80, 110, 118, 120, 124, 128, 132, 138, 140 millimeters.

There are three different types of M.2 connectors: SATA-based (also called B-keyed), PCI Express 3.0-based (also called M-keyed), and USB 3.0-based (also called B+M-keyed). SATA-based M.2 connectors only support SATA protocols, while PCI Express 3.0-based M.2 connectors can support both SATA and PCI Express 3.
