Do All M2 Slots Support NVMe?

M.2 is a specification for internally mounted computer expansion cards and associated connectors. It replaces the mSATA standard, which was used for similar purposes. M.2 offers various length options and, depending on the size, can interface with SATA, PCI Express, or both.

The M.2 standard is still relatively new, so not all devices and systems support it yet. Many motherboards that do have an M.2 slot also support other types of storage devices such as SATA-based SSDs.

Do all M.2 slots support NVMe?

No, not all M.2 slots support NVMe. Some older laptops and motherboards may only support SATA-based M.2 drives.

However, most newer laptops and motherboards will support NVMe drives in an M.2 slot. You can usually tell if an M.2 slot supports NVMe by looking for the “NVMe” logo next to the slot on the motherboard or in the documentation for the device.
