How Do Attunement Slots Work?

In Dark Souls, attunement is a stat that determines the number of spell slots the player has available to equip spells, and also increases the player’s soul absorption from defeated enemies. There are a total of 10 attunement slots: six for spells, two for miracle slots, and two for pyromancy slots.

The player begins the game with one attunement slot, and can increase this number by spending souls at Attunement Merchants. Each slot requires a certain amount of souls to unlock: the first slot requires 10 souls, while the second slot requires 20 souls, and so on.

The maximum number of attunement slots is 10.

Once the player has unlocked an attunement slot, they must then equip a spell, miracle, or pyromancy in that slot in order to be able to use it. To do this, they must first acquire the spell, miracle, or pyromancy from a teacher NPC.

Once they have acquired the spell or miracle, it will appear in their list of available spells or miracles when they view their inventory screen. From here, they can select the spell or miracle and choose to equip it in an available attunement slot.

The number of attunement slots that a player has unlocked is determined by their Attunement stat. This stat can be increased by leveling up or by using certain items.

The Crestfallen Warrior in Firelink Shrine will give the player the White Soapstone item if their Attunement stat is at least 10. This item allows the player to create a sign at bonfires that other players can use to summon them as a Phantom ally in their world.

In conclusion, attunement slots are used to determine the number of spells a player can equip, as well as increasing soul absorption from enemies. The player starts with one attunement slot but can increase this number by spending souls at Attunement Merchants.

Each new slot requires more souls to unlock than the last. The maximum number of attunement slots is ten.
