How Do Dealers Know They Have Blackjack?

When blackjack dealers check for a natural blackjack, they peek at the hole card. If the face up card is an ace and the hole card is a ten-value card, the dealer has a blackjack and will show it immediately.

If the dealer does not have a blackjack, play proceeds as normal.

There are several ways that dealers can tell if they have a blackjack. The most common way is to peek at the hole card.

PRO TIP:Dealers can tell they have blackjack when their first two cards are an Ace and a 10, Jack, Queen or King. They can also tell if they have blackjack by looking to see if the card facing up on the dealer’s hand is an Ace.

Another way is to look at the dealer’s up-card and compare it to the player’s up-card. If the dealer’s up-card is higher than the player’s, then the dealer likely has a blackjack.

The dealer also has a few telltale signs that they may have a blackjack. One is if they suddenly become very still and focused while looking at their cards.

Another is if they take an unusually long time to check for a natural blackjack. If you see either of these things happening, there’s a good chance that the dealer has a blackjack.

If you’re playing in a casino, you can also ask the pit boss or floor manager if the dealer has a blackjack before making your decision on whether to hit or stand. They’ll usually be happy to tell you, since it means that you’re more likely to lose your bet.
