Blackjack is one of the most popular casino games. The object of the game is to have a hand that totals closer to 21 than the dealer’s hand, without going over 21.

Blackjack is usually played with six or eight decks of cards.

The dealer begins the game by dealing each player two cards face up. The dealer then deals himself two cards, one face up and one face down. The face down card is called the “hole” card. If the dealer’s face up card is an ace, he will offer “insurance” to the players.

Insurance is a side bet that pays 2-1 if the dealer has a blackjack. If the dealer does not have a blackjack, the player who bought insurance loses his bet.

After the insurance bets are made, the dealer looks at his hole card. If he has a blackjack, all players lose their original bet, except for those who also have a blackjack, which is a push. If the dealer does not have a blackjack, each player has the option to “hit” or “stand.

” To hit means to take another card from the deck in hopes of improving your hand. To stand means to stop taking cards and keep the hand you have.

If you hit and go over 21, you “bust” and lose your bet. If all players bust before the dealer does, the dealer wins and all players lose their bets.

Otherwise, whoever has the hand closest to 21 without going over wins. If you tie with the dealer, it’s a push and your bet is returned to you.

If your first two cards are an ace and any 10-value card (10, jack, queen or king), you have a blackjack and win 1 1/2 times your bet unless the dealer also has a blackjack in which case it’s a push. Blackjacks usually pay 3-2 but some casinos now offer 6-5 payouts on blackjacks which favors the casino more than the player.

The best way to lower your blackjack is simply by playing smarter than other players at your table and making better choices than they do such as when to hit or stand.
