How Do Spell Slots Work With Warlock Multiclass?

As a warlock, you have a number of spell slots at your disposal to cast your spells. But how do these spell slots work when you multiclass into another class that also uses spell slots?

The answer lies in how your spellcasting ability works. When you multiclass, you essentially have two different spellcasting abilities – your warlock spellcasting ability, and the spellcasting ability of your new class.

This means that you have two different pools of spell slots to draw from.

You can use any combination of your warlock and new class spell slots to cast your spells. However, you need to be mindful of one thing – each type of slot has a different maximum level that it can be used for.

Your warlock slots can be used for spells of up to 5th level, while your new class slots can be used for spells of up to 9th level.

This means that if you want to cast a 6th level warlock spell, you’ll need to use two of your 5th level warlock slots (or one 5th level slot and one 4th level slot). Similarly, if you want to cast a 10th level new class spell, you’ll need to use two of your 9th level new class slots.

One final note – when you multiclass, your number of cantrips doesn’t change. You still get the same number of cantrips as a warlock, regardless of how many other classes you’ve multiclassed into.
