The first step in checking your poker hand is to understand the hierarchy of hands. There are ten different hands in poker, ranked from highest to lowest:

A Straight Flush comes next and consists of any five consecutive cards all in the same suit (e., 5-6-7-8-9 of clubs). If two players have a straight flush, then the one with higher-ranked cards wins.
A Four-of-a-Kind consists of four cards all with the same rank (e., four Queens). If two players have four-of-a-kind, then the one with higher-ranked cards wins.
A Full House consists of three cards of one rank and two cards of another rank (e., three Kings and two Queens). If two players have a full house, then the one with the higher-ranked three cards wins.
A Flush consists of any five cards all in the same suit (e., all diamonds). If two players have a flush, then the one with the highest-ranked card wins.
A Straight consists of any five consecutive cards (e., 4-5-6-7-8). If two players have a straight, then the one with the highest-ranking card wins.
A Three-of-a-Kind consists of three cards all with the same rank (e., three Aces). If two players have three-of-a-kind, then the one with higher-ranked cards wins.
A Two Pair consists of two cards of one rank, two cards of another rank, and one card of a third rank (e., two Queens, two 10s, and an Ace). If two players have two pair, then the player with higher-ranked pairs wins.
A One Pair consists of two cards of one rank and three other unrelated cards (e., a pair of Jacks and an Ace, King, and Queen). If two players have a pair, then the player with higher-ranked pairs wins. If both players have identical pairs, then the remaining high card determines who wins.
Finally, if you don’t have any combination mentioned above but still have some high-ranking cards than your opponents in hand it’s called High Card. In this case too highest-ranking card will be compared to decide who has better hands.
