How Do You Count Running in Blackjack?

In blackjack, a player can elect to count cards in order to keep track of what has been played and get an edge over the house. While this may sound like a difficult task, it is actually quite easy to do. The first step is to find a deck of cards that has been used for a while and look at the back of each card.

You will notice that there are two colors – red and black. The next step is to start counting the number of each color as they are played.

If you see two red cards and one black card, then the count is “two.” You would continue counting in this manner until all of the cards have been played. At this point, you would have a “running count” of how many of each color were played.

The next step is to convert this running count into a “true count.” This is done by dividing the running count by the number of decks remaining in the shoe.

For example, if there is a running count of “ten” and there are four decks remaining in the shoe, then the true count would be “two-and-a-half.” This means that for every two red cards that have been played, one more black card has been played as well.

This gives the player an edge because they know that there are more high cards remaining in the shoe (black cards are worth ten points each while red cards are only worth one point).

Players can use this information to make better decisions about when to hit, stand, double down, or split pairs. Counting cards is not illegal, but casinos do not like players who use this technique.
