How Do You Find the Probability of 5 Card Poker Hands?

In poker, the probability of each hand is the likelihood of being dealt that hand. For example, the probability of being dealt a royal flush is very low, whereas the probability of being dealt a pair is much higher.

The following table shows the probabilities for each type of hand.

PRO TIP:Calculating the probability of different 5 card poker hands can be done by using the number of possible hands for each type (e.g. there are 2,598,960 possible royal flush hands) and dividing it by the total number of possible 5 card hands (2,598,960). This will give you the probability of hitting a specific hand.

Type of Hand Probability
Royal Flush 0.000154%
Straight Flush 0.00139%
Four of a Kind 0.024%
Full House 0.14%
Flush 0.196%
Straight 0.

39%
Three of a Kind 2.11%
Two Pair 4.75%
Pair 42.3%
High Card 50.1%.

As you can see, the probability of being dealt a particular hand varies greatly depending on the hand type. The most likely hand is a pair, while the least likely hand is a royal flush.
