How Do You Play 21 Blackjack for Beginners?

If you’re new to blackjack, the first thing you need to do is learn the basic rules. Once you’ve got a handle on how to play, you can start practicing your skills. Here’s a quick rundown of the rules of 21 blackjack:

The goal of blackjack is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over. Face cards (kings, queens and jacks) are worth 10 points, aces are worth either 1 or 11 points (your choice), and all other cards are worth their numerical value.

Before any cards are dealt, each player places a bet. Then, the dealer will deal two cards to each player and two cards to themselves.

One of the dealer’s cards will be face up for everyone to see, while the other remains hidden.

Players look at their own cards and decide whether to “hit” (take another card) or “stand” (keep their current total). If you hit and go over 21, it’s called a “bust” and you automatically lose the hand.

When it’s your turn, you can also choose to “double down,” which means you double your bet and take one more card. Or, if your first two cards are a matching pair (two 7s, for example), you can “split” them into two separate hands by placing another bet equal to your original wager.

Once all players have either busted or chosen to stand, it’s the dealer’s turn. They must hit until they reach at least 17 points.

If the dealer busts, everyone who didn’t already bust wins the hand. Otherwise, the highest total without going over 21 wins.
