How Do You Play Big and Small Blinds in Poker?

In poker, the blinds are forced bets posted by players to the left of the dealer button in flop-style games. The small blind is typically half the big blind and the big blind is the minimum bet or raise that can be made in the first round of betting.

The two blinds are used to stimulate betting and ensure there are always chips in the pot for the next hand.

In most games, the small blind is posted by the player to the left of the dealer and the big blind is posted by the player to the left of the small blind. In some games, such as Texas hold ’em, three blinds are used: The small blind is posted by the player to the left of the dealer, the big blind is posted by the player two to the left of the dealer, and a third blind, usually double the big blind, is posted by the player three to the left of the dealer.

This third blind is called a straddle. A straddle is a voluntary bet that typically adds excitement to a game – it also tends to make pots larger than they would otherwise be.

PRO TIP:Playing the blinds in poker is an important part of the game. Big and small blinds are forced bets that must be placed by the two players to the left of the dealer before any other cards are dealt. The big blind is usually double the amount of the small blind and both players must match these bets before any other cards are dealt. When it comes to betting, the player who posted the big blind has the option to raise or check (not bet). The player who posted the small blind must either call, raise, or fold.

To play in a game with blinds, each player must post both a small and big blind before any cards are dealt. In most cases, bothblinds are an equal amount of chips – for example, $2/$2 or $5/$5.

If you’re playing in a game with $1/$2blinds, then you would post $1 as your small blind and $2 as your big blind. Once all players have posted theirblinds, each player receives two cards face down (these are your hole cards).

The player to the left of the big blind begins play with a choice: call (matching the big blind), raise (betting more thanthe bigblind), or fold (discarding their hand and ending play for that round). Once that player has acted, play continues clockwise around the table until each player has acted on their hand.
