How Do You Play Electronic Blackjack at Casino?

In casinos, electronic blackjack is played on a computerized console similar in size to a slot machine. The game is dealt from a shoe of four or six decks, and the player plays against the dealer, not the other players at the table.

The object of blackjack is to accumulate cards with a point value as close to 21 as possible without going over 21 (busting). Aces are worth 1 or 11 points, 2 through 10 are worth their face value, and a Jack, Queen or King (J,Q,K) are each worth 10 points.

The player begins by placing a bet in the betting circle. Then the player is dealt two cards face up.

The dealer also deals themselves two cards, one face up and one face down (the hole card).

If the player has a natural blackjack (an Ace with any 10-value card), they are paid 3-2 odds on their bet. If the dealer also has a blackjack, it is a push (a tie). Otherwise, play proceeds as follows:

If the player has a total of 9, 10 or 11 points, they can “double down” by placing an additional bet equal to their original bet in the betting circle. They are then dealt one additional card face up and play proceeds as normal.

If the player has a total of between 12 and 16 points (inclusive), they must “stand” and take no more cards.

If the player has a total of between 17 and 21 points (inclusive), they must “stand” and take no more cards.

If the player has a total of between 0 and 5 points (inclusive), they can “hit” by taking another card from the dealer. They can hit as many times as they like until they “bust” by going over 21 points, or until they “stand”.

Once all players have either busted or stood, it is then the dealer’s turn to play. The dealer must hit if their total is 16 or less, and must stand if their total is 17 or more. If the dealer busts, all players who have not already busted are paid 1-1 odds on their bet.

If the dealer does not bust, then all players with higher point totals than the dealer are paid 1-1 odds on their bet, and all players with lower point totals than the dealer lose their bet. If there is a tie (push), then no one wins or loses their bet.
