The next best hand is a straight flush, which is any five cards in sequence all of the same suit (such as 7-8-9-10-J of clubs). Four of a kind (such as 4 Aces) beats a full house (which is three of a kind plus a pair, such as K-K-K-2-2). A flush (any five cards all of the same suit) beats a straight (any five cards in sequence).
A three of a kind (such as 3 Kings) beats two pair (such as J-J-4-4). One pair (such as 9-9) beats no pair (also known as high card).
In high card poker, betting occurs after each player has been dealt their two hole cards and after each community card has been dealt. Betting starts with the player to the left of the dealer and continues clockwise around the table.
Each player has three options when it’s their turn to bet: they can fold (give up their hand), call (match any previous bet), or raise (bet more than any previous bet).
If no one has raised when it’s your turn to bet, you can either check (meaning you don’t want to bet but you don’t want to fold either) or bet an amount equal to or greater than the big blind (the minimum amount that must be bet in order to stay in the hand). Once someone has raised when it’s your turn to bet, you can either call that person’s bet by betting an amount equal to their bet or raise by betting more than their bet; or you can fold and give up your hand.
Betting continues until all players have either folded or called all bets.
Once all betting has been completed, it’s time for showdown! All players remaining in the hand reveal their hole cards and whichever player has madethe best 5 card poker hand using any combinationof their hole cards and/or community cards wins! If two or more players have made identical hands using different combinationsof hole cards and/or community cards), thenthe pot is split evenly among those players.
