To play poker with chips, each player will need to buy in to the game by purchasing a set of chips. The buy-in amount is typically determined by the game’s stakes, which is the amount of money that can be won or lost during the course of the game.
Once all of the players have bought in, the game can begin. The first thing that happens is that each player is dealt two cards face down, which are known as their hole cards.
Once all of the players have their hole cards, the first betting round will begin. During this round, players can choose to either bet or fold.
If you bet, you are essentially saying that you think your hand is worth more than the other players’ hands.
If everyone folds except for one player, that player wins the pot and the hand ends. If more than one player remains after the first betting round, then the next card is dealt face up in the middle of the table.
This card is known as the flop.
Once the flop has been dealt, another betting round begins. During this round, players can again choose to either bet or fold.
If you bet during this round, you are saying that you think your hand is still better than the other players’ hands.
If everyone folds except for one player again, that player wins the pot and the hand ends. If more than one player remains after this second betting round, then another card is dealt face up in the middle of the table.
This card is known as the turn.
Once the turn has been dealt, another betting round begins. This betting round functions just like the last two betting rounds; players can choose to either bet or fold based on how strong they think their hands are.
