How Do You Set Up Blackjack?

Blackjack is a card game that is played with either one or more standard 52-card decks. The aim of the game is to beat the dealer’s hand by either having a higher total than the dealer or by the dealer going bust and you not.

If both you and the dealer have the same total then this is known as a ‘push’ and no money changes hands.

To start a game of blackjack each player must place a bet, the minimum and maximum bets vary from casino to casino but usually the minimum is around $5. Once all players have placed their bets the dealer will deal two cards face up to each player and then two cards for themselves, one face up and one face down.

The face down card is known as the ‘hole’ card.

The player’s aim is then to try and get as close to 21 without going over (busting). They do this by either ‘standing’ on their current hand total or ‘hitting’ and taking another card from the deck.

If at any point your hand totals more than 21 then you have busted and automatically lose your bet, even if the dealer subsequently goes on to bust themselves.

Once all players have either stood or busted the dealer will reveal their hole card. If their hand totals 16 or less they must take another card, if it totals 17 or more they can stand. Once the dealer has finished drawing cards they compare their hand totals with that of the players.

If your hand is higher than the dealers then you win your bet, if it is lower you lose. If you have tied with the dealer then this is known as a ‘push’ and your bet stays where it is for that particular hand.

In summary, blackjack is a easy game to understand but can take a lifetime to master! To set up a game simply find a table with stakes that suit you, buy some chips from the dealer using cash or casino chips and then place your bet/s in front of you on the betting layout.
