If you’re new to blackjack, the first thing you need to do is learn the basic rules of the game. Blackjack is played with one or more standard 52-card decks, with each player starting with two cards dealt face down.

The dealer also has two cards, but one is dealt face up. The object of the game is to have a hand value that is closer to 21 than the dealer’s hand, without going over 21 (busting).

The value of each card in blackjack is as follows: Ace: 1 or 11; 2-10: Face value; Jack, Queen, King: 10. The suits of the cards (clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades) have no bearing on the game.

Once you know the basic rules of blackjack, you need to understand how betting works. Blackjack is typically played with chips that have different values assigned to them.

For example, in a $5 minimum blackjack game, there may be $1, $5, $25 and $100 chips available. To make a bet, simply place your chips in front of you on the table.

PRO TIP:When playing blackjack, always hit a hard 11 or less and stand with a hard 12-16. When you have a soft hand (an Ace and another card), generally you should double down if the dealer has 4-6 showing. If the dealer has 2-3 or 7-Ace showing, hit instead. Always split Aces and 8s. Finally, try to limit your bets to 10% of your total chips – this way you will have enough money to stay in the game even if you have a few unlucky hands.

Once all players have made their bets, the dealer will begin dealing the cards clockwise around the table starting with the player to his or her left. Each player will receive two cards dealt face down.

The dealer will then deal themselves two cards; one face down and one face up.

Now that all players have their cards, it’s time to start playing! The player to the dealers left starts by looking at their two face down cards and decides whether to hit (take another card) or stand (keep their current hand). This continues around the table until all players have either busted (gone over 21) or chosen to stand.

Once all players have finished playing their hand, it’s now the dealer’s turn. The dealer must follow specific rules when playing their hand which are dictated by casino regulations and/or house rules.

Typically, dealers must hit on 16 or lower and stand on 17 or higher.

If at any point during the game your hand exceeds 21 (busts), you automatically lose your bet regardless of what the dealer’s hand is currently valued at. If neither you nor the dealer busts but your hand value is closer to 21 than theirs, you win! Winning hands are typically paid out at 1:1 odds meaning if you bet $5 and win, you’ll receive $5 in winnings on top of your original bet back – giving you a total of $10.

If your hand ties with the dealers (known as a push), no money changes hands and your original bet is returned to you.

Now that you know how to play blackjack and win money at it – go out there and try your luck!.
