How Does a Blackjack Table Work?

A blackjack table is a casino table game where players can play the game of blackjack. Blackjack is a card game where players aim to get a hand total of 21, or as close to 21 as possible without going over.

The game is played with one or more standard 52 card decks, with each player starting with two cards.

The dealer deals cards to the players from their left to right until all players have two cards. The dealer then deals themselves one card face up and one card face down.

The face down card is known as the hole card.

Once all players have their cards, they can look at them and decide whether to hit or stand. To hit means to ask the dealer for another card.

PRO TIP:Blackjack tables have a standard set-up that includes a dealer, players, and the table itself. The dealer will stand behind the table and deal cards to each player. The table has markings indicating where each player is seated and what their betting limit is. Players are responsible for keeping their own bets in line with the house rules. At the end of each hand, the dealer will collect all bets, pay out winnings, and then shuffle the deck for the next round.

To stand means to keep the hand you have and not take any more cards.

If a player’s hand total goes over 21, this is known as busting and they automatically lose the hand. If the dealer busts, then all remaining players win the hand.

If no player has busted and all players have chosen to stand, then it is time for the dealer to reveal their hole card. If the dealer has a hand total of 16 or less, they must hit again.

If the dealer has a hand total of 17 or more, they must stand.

Once the dealer has revealed their hole card, it is time for them to compare their hand totals with the other players’. If the player’s hand total is higher than the dealer’s, then they win the hand and are paid out at 1:1 odds.

If the player’s hand total is lower than the dealer’s, then they lose their bet. If both the player and dealer tie, then it is known as a push and no one wins or loses that particular hand.
