How Does Dealer Deal Cards in Blackjack?

In blackjack, all cards are dealt face up. The dealer will start with the player to his left and deal each player one card at a time clockwise around the table until each player has two cards.

The dealer will then deal himself two cards, one face up and one face down.

Once all the cards have been dealt, each player will take a turn, starting with the player to the dealers left. On their turn, each player has a few options. They can Stand, meaning they are happy with their hand and don’t want to take any more cards. They can Hit, meaning they want to take another card from the dealer.

They can Double Down, meaning they double their bet and take just one more card. Or, if they have a pair of cards of the same value, they can Split them into two separate hands and play them both.

Once all the players have had their turn, the dealer will reveal his hidden card and play out his hand according to set rules. If the dealer has a soft 17 or lower, he will Hit.

PRO TIP:When dealing cards in Blackjack, the dealer will always start by dealing one card face up to each player, followed by one card face down to each player and then an additional card face up to each player. The dealer will then turn over one of his cards, known as the “hole card”. The dealer must then check his hole card for a blackjack before continuing to deal out the rest of the cards.

If the dealer has a hard 17 or higher, he will Stand.

The aim of the game is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over (busting). If your hand is closer to 21 than the dealers, you win! If you and the dealer both have hands worth 21 (blackjack), then you push (tie).

Cards 2 through 10 are worth their numeric value (two of clubs = two points). Kings, queens and jacks are each worth 10 points and an ace can be worth either 1 point or 11 points depending on what’s best for your hand.

When you’re dealt an ace and a six (soft 17), you shouldHit because there’s a good chance that you can improve your hand without busting by taking another card. Likewise, when you have a hard 16 (a really bad hand), you should also Hit because it’s better than standing on such a weak hand.

The house edge in blackjack comes from the fact that if you bust, you automatically lose even if the dealer also busts in the same round. In addition to this rule, the dealer always wins when it’s a tie except for blackjack which results in a push (tie).

Given these facts, it’s advisable to always stand on 17 or higher no matter what the dealer is showing because it decreases your chances of busting while giving the dealer a better chance of busting instead.
