How Is a Blackjack Game Set Up?

A blackjack game is set up with a blackjack table and a blackjack dealer. The blackjack dealer will usually have a deck of cards, and the blackjack table will have a place for the players to sit. The blackjack dealer will deal the cards to the players, and the players will then try to get as close to 21 as possible without going over. If the player goes over 21, then they “bust” and they lose their bet. If the player gets 21, then they have “blackjack” and they automatically win their bet. If the player does not go over 21 and does not have blackjack, then they can either “stand” or “hit”.

PRO TIP:At the start of a blackjack game, each player is dealt two cards and the dealer is dealt one card face up and one card face down. Players must make a decision to hit (take another card), stand (take no more cards), double down (double their bet and take one more card) or split (if they have two of the same card, they can separate them into two hands). The goal is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over.

If the player stands, then they keep their current hand and wait for the dealer to finish their hand. If the player hits, then they take another card from the deck in an attempt to get closer to 21. The dealer will then do the same thing, except they must hit on 16 or below and stand on 17 or above. Whoever has the hand closest to 21 without going over wins the hand, and everyone who bet on them wins their bet as well.
