How Is Blackjack Calculated?

Blackjack is a card game that is played with a standard 52-card deck. The goal of blackjack is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over, and to beat the dealer’s hand.

The player’s hand is always played first, and if the player busts (goes over 21), the dealer automatically wins.

When the game starts, each player is dealt two cards face up. The dealer also deals themselves two cards, but only one is face up.

Based on the value of their cards, players can choose to “hit” (take another card), “stand” (keep their current hand), “double down” (double their bet and take one more card), “split” (if they have two of the same card, they can split their hand into two separate hands), or “surrender” (give up half of their bet and end their turn).

PRO TIP:Blackjack is calculated by adding the values of all cards in your hand. Face cards (Jacks, Queens, and Kings) are worth 10 points each, Aces can be worth either 1 or 11 points depending on the other cards in your hand and all other numbered cards are worth their face value. The goal of blackjack is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over.

Once all players have finished their turn, the dealer will reveal their face down card and play out their hand according to pre-determined rules. If the dealer busts, all players who are still in the game win.

If the dealer does not bust, then the player’s hands are compared to the dealer’s hand, and whoever has the higher value hand wins.

Blackjack is typically calculated by using a points system. Each card has a different point value: Ace = 1 or 11 points, 2-10 = face value points, Jack/Queen/King = 10 points.

The goal is to get as close to 21 points as possible without going over. If you go over 21 points, you “bust” and automatically lose the hand.
