The Z390 chipset supports a total of four PCI-E 3.0 lanes. Two of these lanes are used for the bottom M.2 slots, and the other two lanes are used for the top M.
2 slot and the SATA Express port. This means that if you use all four M.2 slots, you will only be able to use two SATA Express ports or two SATA ports, as they share the same PCI-E lanes.
The M.2 slots support both SATA and NVMe drives, but NVMe drives will only work in the top slot if you have a CPU that supports Intel’s VROC technology.
If you want to use all four M.2 slots with NVMe drives, you’ll need a CPU that supports Intel’s Quad-GPU Technology.
