Is a Full House Good in Poker?

A full house is a poker hand consisting of three cards of the same rank, two cards of another rank, such as 7♣7♠7♥2♣2♦. It ranks below a flush and above three of a kind.

The name “full house” is used in English, German, Dutch, Afrikaans, Italian and Turkish and is derived from traditional poker games such as seven-card stud and Texas hold ’em. A full house typically beats a flush, but loses to four of a kind.

When you make a full house in poker, it’s generally a good hand. It’s not the strongest hand, but it does have a decent chance of winning.

PRO TIP:In poker, a full house is a strong hand, but it can still be beaten by higher ranked hands such as four-of-a-kind, straight flush and royal flush. However, it often wins against hands with two or three of a kind. Therefore, a full house should usually be played aggressively to maximize its value.

The key to playing a full house well is to know when to bet and when to fold.

If you have a full house and the other players are still betting, it’s usually best to bet. Chances are good that someone has a flush or four of a kind, but they’ll still have to pay to see the rest of your cards.

If everyone checks on the final round, it’s generally better to check as well. Unless you’re sure that you can bluff your way to the pot, it’s usually not worth risking your hand by betting.

In general, a full house is a good hand in poker.
