Is It Illegal to Double in Blackjack?

There is some debate over whether or not it is legal to double in blackjack. The reason for this debate is that there is no clear cut answer in the rule books.

Some people argue that because there is no rule explicitly stating that you can double, it must be illegal. Others argue that because there is no rule explicitly stating that you cannot double, it must be legal.

In my opinion, it is legal to double in blackjack. The reason I believe this is because the rules of blackjack do not prohibit doubling.

PRO TIP:Playing two hands at once in Blackjack is generally not allowed. In most casinos, the rules state that players may only play one hand per round and that if a player wishes to split, they must place an additional bet equal to their original wager.

If the rules of blackjack were meant to prohibit doubling, then they would say so explicitly. Since they don’t, I believe that means doubling is allowed.

Of course, whether or not you can double in blackjack ultimately depends on the casino you’re playing at. Some casinos do not allow doubling, so you would need to check with the specific casino you’re playing at to see if they allow it.

But in general, I believe it is legal to double in blackjack.
