Was Blackjack Mulligan Tough?

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Blackjack Mulligan was one of the most feared and respected men in professional wrestling. A 6’6″, 300-pound former All-American football player, Mulligan was a bruising performer who wasn’t afraid to get physical with opponents – or with fans who got too close to the ring.

Mulligan’s tough guy persona was no act; he was a legitimately tough man who had been involved in several real-life brawls outside the ring. In one famous incident, Mulligan was attacked by a group of fans after a match in New York City.

Mulligan fought off his attackers and then chased them down the street, catching one of them and breaking his jaw.

While Mulligan’s penchant for violence may have been off-putting to some, it was also part of what made him such a successful wrestler. His matches were always filled with action and suspense, and fans never knew what he was going to do next.
