Was the Tangiers a Real Casino?

The Tangiers Casino was a fictional casino featured in the Martin Scorsese movie Casino. The casino was based on the real life Tangiers in Las Vegas, Nevada, which was owned and operated by real life casino boss Stanley Ho.

The Tangiers in the movie was run by Ace Rothstein (Robert De Niro) and his right-hand man, Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci). The casino was a huge success, making Ace and Nicky very rich men.

However, their success was short-lived.

The FBI and the Nevada Gaming Commission began investigating Ace and Nicky for skimming money from the casino’s profits. They were also investigated for ties to organized crime.
