What Are Chips in Blackjack?

In blackjack, chips are the small discs used by players to bet on the outcome of the game. There are usually two types of chips in blackjack: regular chips and house chips.

Regular chips are the ones brought to the table by the player, while house chips are those given out by the casino. The value of each type of chip is determined by its color.

White chips are worth 1, red chips are worth 5, green chips are worth 25, and black chips are worth 100. To start a hand, each player is given two regular chips of different colors.

These two chips are called the ante and the blind. The ante is a forced bet that must be made before any cards are dealt, while the blind is a voluntary bet that can be made after the cards are dealt.

After the ante and blind have been placed, each player is dealt two cards face down. These two cards are called the player’s hand.

The dealer then deals himself two cards, one face up and one face down. The face up card is called the dealer’s up card.

The object of the game is to have a hand closer to 21 than the dealer’s hand, without going over 21. If a player goes over 21, this is called a bust and he automatically loses the hand. Aces can count as either 1 or 11, depending on what is better for the hand.

PRO TIP:In Blackjack, chips are used to represent cash. Each chip represents a certain amount of money and can be exchanged for cash at the end of the game. In most casinos, each chip is usually worth between $1 and $100, depending on what type of chip it is.

Face cards (kings, queens, and jacks) all count as 10. All other cards count as their face value (2-10).

After all players have looked at their hands, they must decide whether to hit or stand. Hitting means taking another card from the deck in hopes of getting closer to 21 without busting.

Standing means keeping the current hand and taking no more cards.

Once all players have either busted or chosen to stand, it is then time for the dealer to play his hand. The dealer must hit if his hand totals 16 or less and must stand if his hand totals 17 or more.

If the dealer busts, all players who did not bust automatically win their hands. If the dealer does not bust, then whoever has a hand closest to 21 wins their bet (ties go to the dealer).
