What Are Roulette Voisins?

Roulette is a casino game named after the French word meaning little wheel. In the game, players may choose to place bets on either a single number, various groupings of numbers, the colors red or black, whether the number is odd or even, or if the numbers are high (19–36) or low (1–18).

The croupier then spins a wheel in one direction and a ball in the other direction around a tilted circular track running around the circumference of the wheel. The ball eventually loses momentum and drops into one of 37 (in French/European roulette) or 38 (in American roulette) colored and numbered pockets on the wheel.

The object of the game is to predict which numbered pocket the ball will fall into next. Players can make bets on a single number (“straight up”) , various groupings of numbers (“split” , “street” , “corner” , “six line” , “first five”), the colors red or black, whether the number is odd or even, or if the numbers are high (19–36) or low (1–18).

There is also a bet called voisins du zero (“neighbors of zero”). This bet consists of 17 numbers that are located on the roulette wheel between 22 and 25, including 22 and 25 themselves.

The voisins du zero bet pays off at 11 to 1.

The neighbors bet pays off at 5 to 1. So, if you bet $5 on any one of these 17 numbers, you would stand to win $25 if your number hits.

The zero and double zero are not included in either bet.

The house edge for this bet is 7.89%.
