What Are the Most Common Numbers Hit in Roulette?

There are a few schools of thought when it comes to trying to figure out what the most common numbers hit in roulette are. Many believe that because the wheel is spun in a clockwise direction, that the numbers on the right side of the board (higher numbers) are more likely to be hit.

Others believe that because the ball is dropped from a fixed point on the wheel, that numbers near where the ball is dropped are more likely to be hit. And still others believe that all numbers are hit with equal frequency.

The truth is, there is no definitive answer as to which numbers are hit more often than others in roulette. The odds of any given number being hit on any given spin of the wheel are 1 in 38 (2.63%). That means that over the long run, all numbers should be hit approximately the same number of times.

However, in any given short-term period, anything can happen. That’s why people sometimes get lucky and hit a number that they’ve been betting on for a while, or why sometimes it seems like a certain number or group of numbers hits more often than others.

One thing that is certain, however, is that some numbers do seem to come up more often than pure chance would dictate. For example, the number 7 has been shown to come up more often than other numbers in both American and European roulette games.

Other “hot” numbers include 18, 23, 4, 16, and 33. But again, this could just be because these numbers have been hit more often in recent spins and/or because they lie next to each other on the roulette wheel and therefore tend to get hit together more frequently.

If you’re looking for a strategy to help you win at roulette, your best bet is to stick with the outside bets (such as red/black or even/odd), which have nearly 50% odds of winning. You’ll still lose money in the long run, but your chances of coming out ahead on any given spin are much better than if you bet on a specific number or group of numbers.
