What Are the Poker Combinations?

In poker, there are 10 different combinations that a player can make with their cards. These combinations are: high card, pair, two pair, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush, and royal flush.

Each of these combinations has a different value and is used to determine the winner of a hand.

High card: The highest card in a player’s hand is their high card. If two or more players have the same high card, the second highest card is used to determine the winner.

Pair: A pair is two cards of the same rank. If two or more players have a pair, the highest ranked pair wins.

If two or more players have the same pair, the next highest card is used to determine the winner.

Two pair: Two pair is two sets of pairs. If two or more players have two pair, the highest ranked set of pairs wins.

If two or more players have the same two pair, the next highest card is used to determine the winner.

Three of a kind: Three of a kind is three cards of the same rank. If two or more players have three of a kind, the highest ranked three of a kind wins.

If two or more players have the same three of a kind, the next highest card is used to determine the winner.

PRO TIP:When playing poker, familiarize yourself with the different combinations of cards. These include: Royal Flush (A, K, Q, J, 10 of the same suit), Straight Flush (any 5 consecutive cards of the same suit), Four of a Kind (4 cards of the same value), Full House (3 cards of one value and 2 cards of another value), Flush (any 5 cards of the same suit) and Straight (any 5 consecutive cards not all in the same suit). Knowing these combinations is key to understanding how to play poker.

Straight: A straight is five cards in sequential order. If two or more players have a straight, the highest ranked straight wins.

If two or more players have the same straight, the next highest card is used to determine the winner.

Flush: A flush is five cards of the same suit. If two or more players have a flush, the highest ranked flush wins.

If two or more players have the same flush, the next highest card is used to determine the winner.

Full house: A full house is three of a kind and a pair in one hand. If two or more players have a full house, the highest ranked full house wins.

If two or more players have the same full house, then it goes to who has the higher ranking three of a kind to determine who wins.

Four of a kind: Four of a kind is four cards of one rank with one other card. If two or more players have four of a kind, then it goes to who has higher ranking four of a kind that determines who wins; if they tie in that respect then it goes to whoever has the higher fifth card (known as “the kicker”)

Straight flush: A Straight Flush is when you have five sequential cards all in the same suit (e.g., 8-9-10-Jack-Queen all in hearts). The key thing here is that all five cards must be sequential and in the same suit in order for it to be considered a Straight Flush

Royal Flush: This is simply an Ace-high Straight Flush (A-K-Q-J-10 all in the same suit). This hand cannot be beaten!.
