What Can You Do With 17 in Blackjack?

In blackjack, players aim to beat the dealer’s hand by getting a higher score than the dealer, without exceeding 21. If both the player and dealer exceed 21, this is called a ‘bust’ and the player automatically loses the hand.

There are a few different ways to win in blackjack. The most common is by getting a higher score than the dealer.

This can be done by either drawing cards to increase your score (known as ‘hitting’), or by ‘standing’ on your current score and forcing the dealer to draw cards until they either exceed 21 (known as a ‘bust’) or their score is lower than yours.

PRO TIP:In Blackjack, having a 17 can be a tricky hand to play. It’s best to stay pat if you have a hard 17 (non-ace) or higher, and hit if you have a soft 17 (ace plus 6 or lower). Depending on the dealer’s up card, it may be wise to split Aces if the dealer has a 7 or lower showing.

Another way to win is if the dealer drAWS cards until they reach a score of 17 or more, at which point they must ‘stand’. If your score is lower than 17 but higher than the dealer’s, you will win the hand.

The final way to win is if both you and the dealer end up with the same score – this is known as a ‘push’ and no one wins or loses the hand.

So, what can you do with 17 in blackjack? If the dealer has a lower score than you, then you should ‘stand’ on your 17 and wait for them to draw more cards. If they eventually bust, then you will win the hand.

If the dealer also has a score of 17, then it is best to ‘stand’ as well since neither of you can improve your hand without risking busting.
