What Happens if You and the Dealer Bust in Blackjack?

In blackjack, both the player and the dealer are dealt two cards. If either the player or the dealer has a total of 21 or more, they have a blackjack and automatically win.

If both the player and the dealer have blackjacks, it is a push, and no one wins.

If neither the player nor the dealer has a blackjack, then the player can choose to either hit or stand. Hitting means that the player asks for another card, and standing means that the player is happy with their current hand and does not want another card.

PRO TIP:If both the player and dealer bust in Blackjack, the round is a push. No matter what cards are dealt, the round will end with no one winning.

If the player hits and their new hand has a total of 21 or less, then they can either hit or stand again. If the player hits again and goes over 21, this is called busting and they automatically lose.

If the player stands, then it is now the dealer’s turn to hit or stand. The dealer must hit if their hand totals 16 or less, and they must stand if their hand totals 17 or more.

If the dealer busts, then all players who are still in the game automatically win.
