The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation is a federally recognized Native American tribe in the state of Connecticut. They are descended from the Algonquin people and occupied much of southern New England, including the present-day states of Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.

The Pequot tribe first came into contact with Europeans in 1633 when Dutch traders arrived in southern New England. The Dutch were soon followed by English Puritans who established the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
