What Is a Roulette Color?

In roulette, players bet on either red or black, a single number, groUPS of numbers, odd or even, or high (19–36) or low (1–18) numbers. The croupier then spins the wheel clockwise, then counterclockwise, and the ball eventually falls into one of 37 (in French/European roulette) or 38 (in American roulette) colored and numbered pockets on the wheel.

There are 18 red numbers, 18 black numbers, and one green zero. The zeros are colored green to distinguish them from the other numbers.

PRO TIP:When playing roulette, the colors that are used to designate different numbers are red and black. The color of each number corresponds to its probability of being selected. Red numbers have an equal chance of being selected as black numbers, so there is no advantage or disadvantage to choosing either one.

If a player bets on red or black and the ball lands on a green zero, the player loses his bet.

The colors red and black alternate around the wheel, except for the zeros and double zeros which are colored green. The American wheel has 38 slots with 0-36 plus 00.

The European wheel has 37 slots with 0-36.
