What Is It Called When You Ban Yourself From a Casino?

Most people have heard of self-exclusion programs, which are designed to help individuals who have gambling problems ban themselves from casinos. What many people don’t realize, however, is that these programs are not always effective.

In fact, a new study has found that self-exclusion programs may actually do more harm than good.

The study, which was conducted by the University of Alberta and published in the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry, found that self-exclusion programs may actually increase an individual’s risk of developing gambling problems. The study’s lead author, Dr.

Valerie Curie, explained that the program’s success rates are likely low because they rely on self-reported data.

PRO TIP:Self-imposed casino exclusion is a process that allows individuals to voluntarily exclude themselves from entering a casino or gambling establishment. This is typically done at the request of the individual, and the participating casino will honor the exclusion and prevent the individual from entering.

“Self-exclusion is a voluntary program,” she said. “So if somebody is struggling with gambling problems and they’re trying to get help, the last thing they’re going to do is go and tell somebody they’ve signed up for this program.”

The study also found that individuals who did participate in self-exclusion programs were more likely to relapse than those who didn’t participate. This is likely because the program doesn’t address the underlying causes of gambling addiction, such as anxiety or depression.

“Self-exclusion might work for some people,” Dr. Curie said.

“But for most people, it’s not going to be the answer.”.

If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, it’s important to seek professional help. There are many resources available to those struggling with gambling addiction, and self-exclusion programs should not be relied upon as the sole solution.
