What Is No in Blackjack?

Blackjack, also known as Twenty-One, is a popular casino game. The object of the game is to beat the dealer’s hand by having a higher total than the dealer without going over 21.

In blackjack, the suits of the cards do not matter. The value of the cards is as follows: Ace (A) = 1 or 11, King (K), Queen (Q), Jack (J) = 10, and the numbered cards 2 through 10 have their face value.

The game is played with six or eight decks of cards that are shuffled together. The player is dealt two cards face up and the dealer is dealt two cards, one face up and one face down. If the player has a total of 21 on his initial two cards (an ace and a 10-valued card), this is called a blackjack or natural and he wins automatically, unless the dealer also has a blackjack.

If the player does not have a blackjack, he can choose to “hit” (take another card) or “stand” (keep his current total). The goal is to get as close to 21 without going over.

If the player goes over 21, this is called a “bust” and he loses automatically. If the dealer busts, all players who did not bust win automatically.

If neither the player nor the dealer busts, then whoever has the higher total wins. If both have equal totals, this is called a “push” and no one wins or loses.

After each player has had his turn, the dealer will turn over his face down card. If his total is 16 or less, he must take another card. If his total is 17 or more, he must “stand.

” Once the dealer stands, all players who have not already busted compare their totals to the dealers. Players with higher totals than the dealer win their bet, players with lower totals lose their bet, and players with equal totals push (neither win nor lose).

Blackjack is usually played with what is known as a Las Vegas ruleset. These rules state that if the player doubles down or splits pairs and gets a blackjack, only receives even money instead of 3-2 odds.

A side bet called insurance may be offered when the dealer’s upcard is an Ace; if taken it pays 2:1 if the dealer has a blackjack but it costs the player half their original bet so in effect it breaks even if successful used against a non-blackjack  resulting hand.
