What Is PCI and PCIe Slots?

PCI slots are the most common type of expansion slot used in computers. They are used to add expansion cards, which provide additional features such as sound, video, and networking.

Most motherboards have both PCI and PCIe slots, so you can choose which type of expansion card to use. However, some older motherboards only have PCI slots.

PCIe slots come in different sizes: x1, x4, x8, and x16. The number indicates how many data lanes the slot has.
