What Is the HJ in Poker?

In poker, the “HJ” is short for “high jack.” This is the term used for the player who is in the best position to win the pot, usually the one with the highest card showing.

In a game of Texas Hold’em, for example, if you are in the small blind with a king showing and everyone else has folded, you are said to be “high jack.”.

PRO TIP:HJ (or hijack) is a poker position located on the immediate left of the Cutoff (CO) and two positions to the right of the button. This position is considered one of the most advantageous in No-Limit Hold’em since it allows players to act last preflop and first postflop. It’s important to note that due to its favourable position, HJ players have an opportunity to open more hands than other positions, so they should use this opportunity wisely and play only strong hands from this position.

The term can also be used more broadly to refer to any player who is in a good position to win. For example, if you are the chip leader in a tournament with only a few players remaining, you might be referred to as the “high jack.”

In general, being high jack is a good thing. It means you are in a strong position to win the pot and/or the tournament.

Of course, there is no guarantee that you will actually win, but being high jack gives you a better chance than anyone else.
