What Should You Never Split in Blackjack?

There are a few things you should never split in blackjack including aces, eights, and tens. Let’s take a more in-depth look at each of these.

Aces

Splitting aces is never a good idea because you are only allowed to receive one more card for each ace. This means that if you split aces and then receive a ten-value card, you will have 21 but it will not be considered a blackjack.

In addition, if you split aces and then receive two low-value cards, you will have to hit again which could result in going bust.

Eights

Eights should also never be split because they have a lot of potential. If you split eights and then receive two high-value cards, you will have 18 which is a strong hand.

However, if you split eights and then receive two low-value cards, you will have 16 which is not a strong hand. It is better to play it safe and just hit when you have 16.

Tens

Tens should never be split because they are very powerful cards. If you split tens and then receive two high-value cards, you will have 20 which is an excellent hand.

However, if you split tens and then receive two low-value cards, you will have 12 which is not a good hand. It is better to play it safe and just hit when you have 12.
