What Slots Do Graphics Cards Use?

Most graphics cards these days use one or more of the PCI Express slots on a motherboard. They come in different shapes and sizes, but they all fit into a PCIe slot.

The number of lanes in a slot determines how much data can flow through it. A lane is made up of two wires, one for transmitting and one for receiving data. A 16-lane slot can therefore carry 32 bits of data at a time.

Most graphics cards these days are 8 or 16 lane cards. Some high-end cards are even 32 lane cards.

The size of the graphics card also determines how many PCIe slots it will occupy. A full size card will usually occupy two slots, although some smaller cards will only take up one slot.

The type of graphics card you need will depend on what you want to use it for. If you just want to do some basic gaming, then a low-end card will suffice.

However, if you want to do some serious gaming or video editing, then you will need a high-end card.
