The show originally aired on GSN before moving to NBC in 2007. The first two seasons of Poker After Dark consisted of six episodes each and featured a mix of cash games and tournaments. In 2008, the show was expanded to ten episodes per season and began to focus exclusively on cash games. Season 3 saw the introduction of the “Hit and Run” format, in which players could leave the table at any time with their winnings.

Season 4 introduced the “Winner Takes All” format, in which the last remaining player at the table wins the entire pot. Season 5 saw the return of tournament play, with a $20,000 winner-takes-all Sit & Go tournament being held each week.
