When Did Choctaw Casino Open?

In 2004, the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians opened the first phase of the $246 million Pearl River Resort and Casino in Choctaw, Mississippi. The resort includes a hotel, conference center, spa, swimming pool, and two 18-hole golf courses.

The casino features over 2,000 slot machines and 50 table games.

The resort was originally developed by the late Jerry Stovall, a former Louisiana State University football star and Mississippi Gaming Commission chairman. Stovall’s company, Stovall & Associates, began construction on the project in 2001.

However, construction was halted due to financial problems and the resort was not completed until 2004.

The Choctaw tribe has a long history in Mississippi. The tribe’s name comes from the Choctaw word for “river people.

” The ChoctAWS were some of the first Native Americans to settle in what is now Mississippi. They lived in small villages along the Pearl River and its tributaries.

The ChoctAWS were also one of the first Native American tribes to sign a treaty with the United States government. The Treaty of Doak’s Stand was signed in 1820 and recognized Choctaw sovereignty in Mississippi.

The ChoctAWS were forced to relocate to Oklahoma in the 1830s as part of the Indian Removal Act. However, many ChoctAWS chose to remain in Mississippi and became state citizens.

Today, there are over 10,000 enrolled members of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

The Pearl River Resort is one of the largest employers in central Mississippi. The resort has created over 1,200 jobs for Choctaw tribal members and other residents of central Mississippi.
