The casino is located on 40 acres (16 ha) of land, off of US 31, about 7 miles (11 km) north of Traverse City. The property was originally part of a 240-acre (97 ha) parcel that was purchased by the tribe in 1994.

The tribe had planned to build a $40 million casino on the property, but the plan was put on hold when the tribe could not get financing for the project. The tribe then decided to build a smaller casino, which cost $12 million to construct.
