When Should You Bet More in Blackjack?

The basic strategy of blackjack is to always hit when you have a total of 11 or less, to always stand when you have a total of 17 or more, and to always split aces and 8s. But what about those other times when you have a total of 12-16? When should you hit, and when should you stand?

There are a few factors to consider when making this decision. The first is the dealer’s upcard.

If the dealer is showing a 2-6, then you should hit because they are more likely to bust. If the dealer is showing a 7-A, then you should stand because they are more likely to make a hand.

The second factor to consider is your own hand. If you have a soft hand (a hand with an ace that can be counted as 11), then you should hit more often because you can’t bust.

If you have a hard hand (a hand without an ace, or with an ace that can only be counted as 1), then you should stand more often because you are more likely to bust.

The third factor to consider is whether or not you have been winning or losing recently. If you are on a hot streak, then you should bet more because your luck is probably good.

If you are on a cold streak, then you should bet less because your luck is probably bad.
